My Story
I started my career in 2008 by studying the City & Guilds Professional Chef and Patisserie Diploma's in Cape Town, and then working as a Private Chef in homes with families for a few years. In 2016 I became a franchisee with a cooking school and opened my own branch in Somerset West. I was passionate about what I was doing and found that teaching a crucial life skill to children and adults was the ideal opportunity to integrate my knowledge, experience and interests. I was able to help some children with very limited palates explore and learn to enjoy a broader variety of foods. I also worked with nannies and housekeepers by teaching them skills they could use in the workplace to increase their offering and their salaries, as well as at home and in their communities.
In 2018 I started my BSc Dietetics. I achieved Golden Key Society membership in 2018 and Dean’s Merit Awards in 2019, 2020 & 2021, then finally graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2021. During my fourth year / internship I was based at several different hospitals and clinics including Groote Schuur, Tygerberg, Khayelitsha District Hospital and Delft Clinic. I went on to do my community service year at Groote Schuur Hospital in 2022 where I was exposed to every area of clinical dietetics and able to learn from some excellent dietitians. I love working with and helping people, and I have a special interest in women's health, fertility, pregnancy, lactation, paediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, IBS, oncology, diabetes and a variety of other chronic conditions.
When I am not working or chasing my toddler around, I enjoy aerial yoga, reading, watching romantic comedies, baking, cooking up a feast, wine tasting, spending time with friends and family and exploring outdoors with my beautiful rescue dog Chubby (who is perfectly lean!). I have also been both directly and indirectly involved with some local animal rescue organisations, from donation collection and outreaches to fostering, something very close to my heart.
